Relief as Minister implements FCT Civil Service Commission 2018 Law next week

Ezenwo Wike, has declared readiness to from now till next week swiftly implement the 2018 Law for the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission as passed by the National Assembly, following President Bola Tinubu’s approval, last weekend.

Wike made this assertion yesterday while addressing hundreds of staff of the FCT Administration who stormed the FCTA Secretariat at area 11, to express their gratitude to the Minister and President Tinubu for resolving the lingering issue, just barely two months of Wike’s leadership as the FCT minister.

It was observed that at the ‘Thank You’ rally, the FCTA workers who came out in their numbers, could not hold in their excitement and elation as they sang praises of the Minister and prayed for his well-being while also commending President Tinubu for giving the presidential nod for the implementation of the FCT Civil Service (Establishment) Act, which was passed by the 9th National Assembly and accented to by the then President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018.

However, the Minister explained
that he didn’t even know about the 2018 law until he a columnist saying that ‘nobody has the political will to implement the 2018 law’ ; “then, I said, okay, me, I have the political will.”

“And I thank Mr. President for having that confidence in us, because nobody has gotten that kind of approval before.”

“Let me tell you, from now till next week, I will implement it, because if I can grow in my career to this level, why should we be a hindrance to other people’s growth?

He continued: “I would convey your message to the President, Command in Chief, for your appreciation for what he did for all of you and our society last week.

“You know decision making is very difficult and that is why we must commend Mr. President. What he he has done is that, he has shown capacity and political will, and will tell Mr. President how happy you are.

“Continue to pray for Mr. President. More things will come for FCT and we will make all of you happy. If you happy, we will be happy. Because I cannot smile every day and your faces are not looking good. That is not the best.

“We will be going to work for the development of FCT. So please, in the name of God, let’s all rededicate and commit ourselves for the development of FCT, so that we can realize the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President.”

Ealier, speaking on behalf of FCT civil servants, Chairman, Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), FCTA/FCDA/SDAs, Comrade Korede Muyideen Matilukuro, described the development as a positive step towards enhancing the efficiency and professionalism of the civil service in Territory, which signifies commitment to good governance, accountability, and the welfare of civil servants.

He said the staff expect the commission will ensure fair recruitment, promotion,
and career development opportunities for civil servants, as they will actively monitor its operations to ensure that it upholds these values.

“We appreciate this development and are committed to working with the FCT Civil Service Commission to create a civil service that can truly serve the residents of the Federal Capital Territory.

“We applaud Mr. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu lead
administration’s Renewed Hope Mandate for taking
concrete steps of placing the FCT Civil Service on the right
cause by bridging the gap of manpower growth and
development which happens to be the dreams of our yester years.

“This action by the President is a reminder that it took an unprecedented approach of an uncommon leader to
restore this dream by giving us FCT Civil Service Commission”, he stressed.
