KCCN receives Hansik meal boxes to boost Korean cuisine

The Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria received about 100 Hansik meal boxes from the Korean

Food Promotion Institute (KFPI) Korea in September. The aim of the Hansik kit program is to

promote Korean cuisine abroad and share with them the experience of enjoying traditional

Korean meals.

KCCN distributed the meal kit to the following groups; 16 members of the Association of Professional Chefs in Nigeria (APCN): During the Chuseok cooking class held on 19th & 21st Sept, 21 KCCN Hallyu Creators: During the Hallyu Creators 3.0 orientation event on 14th Sept, 16 KCCN Staff on 13th Oct, Over 90 participants of the Flavor of Korea event held on 11th & 12th Oct

However, on the 11th and 12th of October 2023, the Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria held an event titled ‘Flavors of Korea’ courtesy of the Korean Food Promotion Institute (KFPI) in Korea. The event was held to distribute the Hansik meal kits received from the Korean Food Promotion Institute to Nigerians who are interested in Korean food culture and are curious to learn about and taste Korean meals. A total of 100 Participants registered to attend the event and over 90 people were in attendance. The event was split into two days, Wednesday and Thursday to accommodate everyone.

During the event, a brief presentation about the basics of Korean cooking and Korean local spices was given by a member of staff and the requirements for receiving the meal kits were explained to the

participants. As a fun activity for the event, a chopsticks game was played where some participants took turns to move marbles from one spot to the other using a chopstick. The winners of the chopsticks game received Korean snacks and chopsticks accordingly and the meal kits were shared to everyone after the games.

Here are some of the shared experiences of the participants who attended the event. Stephanie, A Hallyu Enthusiast from Abuja was excited to be attending the Wednesday event.

Her words, “I will be making Kimchi fried rice and Tteokbboki and I am so excited to try it

out”.

She said she had attended other events at KCCN but this will be her first time attempting to make a Korean dish on her own. She expressed thanks to KCCN and KFPI for the opportunity and looks forward to more events like this in the future.

Maryam, a participant from Abuja said she enjoyed the meal kit event the best! “Thank you for the chance to try varieties as I did not know about soy sauce before today”. She expressed thanks to KCCN and KFPI for the opportunity and looks forward to more events like this in the future.

Fatima, said she had so much fun as she got to learn more about Korean food and how the ingredients are made. She hopes to get even different meals kits in the near future. She expressed thanks to KCCN and KFPI for the opportunity and looks forward to more events.

Amarachi Nwosu said this was her first event at KCCN and she is excited to be trying out the meal kits as she has only seen them in K-dramas. Her dream is to visit Korea and she hopes to be able to cook Korean meals properly and speak the language fluently as soon as possible. She expressed thanks to KCCN and KFPI for the event.

Yaya enjoyed the event at KCCN and she is excited to be trying out the meal kits as she has only seen them in K-dramas. She does not think making a video about the food would be difficult at all. She expressed gratitude to KCCN and KFPI.

Praise a participant for the Thursday event said this is her first time attending an event at KCCN and it will also be her first time trying out Korean food. Her only experience has been cup noodles and she is super excited to be trying this out. “I think the easiest dish will be the kimchijeon since it is a pancake”. She expressed gratitude to KCCN and KFPI.

Brianna who attended the Thursday event said it would be interesting trying out the meals. “It may not look as nice as when a Korean makes it but I will try my best and keep practicing”. She expressed gratitude to KCCN and KFPI.

Francisca Odoh registered for the Thursday event said the event was nice. She looks forward to making the dishes and tasting them. She expressed gratitude to KCCN andKFPI. Omogbai Blessed registered for the Thursday event said he is happy to be one of the male participants. As a foodie, he is excited to try out the meal kits. He looks forward to making the dishes and tasting them and even making the best content since he is one of the few men that are participating. He expressed gratitude to KCCN and KFPI.
