Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Kaduna State has moved to check-mate quackery and other malpractices in the medical profession.
The Chairman Kaduna State Chapter of the Association, Dr.Madaki David Sheyin gave this indication while briefing newsmen on the rundown of activities marking the association’s 2023 Physician Week, Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference with the theme “ Physicians’ Week (Elevating Healthcare Excellence: Fighting Medical Quackery and reinforcing professional standards) Kaduna Yesterday.
Dr. Sheyin said the activities of quack Doctors have become alarming and worrisome and need urgent attention to tackle them.
He disclosed that NMA has resolved to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure all forms of quackery are stamped out in the State.
“We also frown at the media trial of Nigerian doctors and request that the rule of law be observed and follow due process if aggrieved or in discharging their responsibilities.
“If anyone has any case against a doctor practicing in Nigeria, it should channel such to the Registrar of Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) for appropriate response being the body statutorily saddled with such responsibility.
“The Nigerian Medical Association hereby expresses her displeasure at the recent media trial of some healthcare workers by the Minister of Women Affairs.
“ We will not hesitate to chastise our members and continually urge them to uphold the utmost professionalism and support the association in ridding it of all forms of quackery.
“ We have embarked on a massive awareness campaign and sensitization on the activities of quacks and practice of quackery in the State.
Dr. Sheyin added that the association is exploring all peaceful avenues toward securing some economic reprieve for its members.
The progress towards payment of 100% 2014 CONMESS salary to members according to him is just too slow.
“We are using this opportunity to call on Kaduna State Government to immediately commence the payment of the approved reviewed CONMESS salary structures with their arrears for medical doctors and dentists. “
