The Teen Ambassadors Foundation has provided free medical care to over 50 journalists covering the House of Representatives as part of activities marking the 2026 Legislative Press Week.
The medical outreach, organised in partnership with the House of Representatives Press Corps, offered members free medical consultations, health checks and medication ahead of the Corps’ 2nd Annual Distinguished Parliamentarian Lecture.
Speaking on the initiative, Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Teen Ambassadors Foundation, Mr Paul A. Adiwu, said the organisation was pleased to provide free medical services for members of the Press Corps.
Adiwu said the initiative reflected the importance of supporting the health and well-being of journalists, describing the decision to commence the Legislative Press Week with a medical outreach as a thoughtful step by the leadership of the Press Corps.
He said the foundation appreciated the opportunity to partner with the Corps and contribute to its collective objectives.
Chairman of the House of Representatives Press Corps, Gboyega Onadiran, said the medical outreach was a continuation of the robust partnership between the Corps and the Teen Ambassadors Foundation.
According to him, journalists require good physical and psychological health to effectively discharge their professional responsibilities.
“Health, they say, is wealth. As journalists, we need to be in the best state of health to discharge our responsibilities effectively. A journalist that is sick or is not psychologically stable will certainly not be able to give his or her best,” Onadiran said.
He said the demanding nature of journalism often makes it difficult for some practitioners to seek proper healthcare, noting that the outreach had brought medical services directly to members.
“This exercise has offered us an opportunity to get ourselves tested, consult doctors and receive proper medication, which has eluded some of us for months or even years,” he said.
The Chairman expressed appreciation to Adiwu and his medical team for providing the free healthcare services.
The medical outreach is part of activities preceding the Corps’ 2nd Annual Distinguished Parliamentarian Lecture scheduled for Tuesday at the National Assembly Library.
The lecture is themed “The Imperative for State Police: Securing Communities, Strengthening Federalism.” Nnadubem Moghalu, Secretary of the Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill, is expected to deliver the keynote lecture.
