Following the Appeal Court judgement that sacked the Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf in Friday, the leadership of New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, and the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, have called on their supporters to shun violence in the state.
The state’s Police Commissioner, Mohammed Usaini Gumel at a press conference on Monday said the Command had uncovered plans to stage violent protests in the state.
He disclosed that information at the command’s disposal, there are.some faceless elements plotting to cause violence in the state, adding that investigation had been commenced to unmask those behind the plot.
He said on receiving the information, the Command summoned a meeting with the leadership of two rival political parties and state’s security chiefs, aimed at scuttling all plots to breach peace in the state.
He warned against unlawful gatherings and urged patriotic citizens to move about their daily business without fear.
According to Gumel, adequate security arrangements had been put in place to prevent the escalation of tensions that may lead to a breakdown of law and order;
He said whoever attempts to disrupt the peace in the state will be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the Law.
The CP also disclosed that following the discussions in the meeting, the leaders of the two political parties disowned the persons planning protest in the state.
He said the leaders had promised to further called on their supporters, to show restraint and be law abiding as they did on the eve of the Appeal Court verdict.
Speaking, the Secretary of APC in Kano, Ibrahim Zakari Sarina said the party leadership has already cautioned its followers against any action capable of breaching the peace in the state.
