Two labourers are to spend four months in prison each for stealing a motorcycle, following their sentence by an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ court.
The convicts, Sadiq Ismail, 26 and Maigari Sani, 31, of Kado village and Angwan Beriberi respectively in Abuja, were charged with joint act and theft.
The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Asmau Akanni, sentenced the accused persons after finding them guilty of the two count charges.
Akanni, however, gave them an option of N6, 000 fine each.
“I hereby sentence you both to two months imprisonment each and an option to pay N3, 000 each on every charge.
“Although, you both had begged for leniency, but you must be punished, in order to serve as deterrent not only to you, and also to other intending offenders,’’ Akanni said.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Mr. Simon Emmanuel, had told the court that one Chinedu Collins, of Dape village, reported the case to the Life Camp police station on May 22.
Emmanuel said on the same date, the two accused persons conspired and stole the complainant’s motorcycle, Lifan C.D 110, which was parked at his house in Dape village.
He said that during police investigation, the accused persons were arrested with the stolen motorcycle at Angwan Cement village in Life Camp. (NAN)
