Road accident claims 2, injures 6 in Ogun

No fewer than two people were confirmed dead, while six others were critically injured in two separate accidents that occurred yesterday morning, along the Abeokuta – Sagamu expressway.

The first accident, which occurred around 10:16 a.m., at Onipepeye junction in Obafemi -Owode local government area of Ogun state involved a commercial Mitsubishi Spacewagon car, with registration number (LAGOS) BDG 810 XK coming from Lagos and an Ash coloured Toyota Camry car with registration number (LAGOS) AAA 524 CW which was heading towards the Sagamu axis.

The Toyota Camry was said to have skidded off its lane which made it to collide with the commercial Mitsubishi car heading towards Abeokuta which led to the death of two passengers on the spot.

Head of the Rescue Team of Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Commander Adeola Adekoya, who confirmed the accident to newsmen noted that one of the passengers identified as Mrs. Tope Akingbade was trapped in the crash.

Adekoya, who attributed the crash to over speeding on the part of the Toyota Camry driver, pointed out that the victim spent close to one hour before she was rescued by the joint efforts of officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) as well as those of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC).

She added that officials of the Ogun state Ambulance Service had earlier carried out “first aid treatment” on the trapped victim before she was eventually rescued and taken to the State Hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta, along with others for further medical attention.

The second and lone accident, which occurred about 100 meters away from the scene of the first crash within the same Onipepeye axis involved a BMW X5 Jeep with registration number (LAGOS) KJA 595 AY.

One of the two occupants of the BMW jeep was critically injured and was also rescued and taken to the State Hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta for medical attention.
