Democracy Day: Aliyu squanders N200m on Abuja jamboree – APC

Date:

From Yakubu Mustapha, Minna

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger state has accused the state Governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu, of squandering over N200 million in celebrating the 7th anniversary of his administration in Abuja.

The party in a statement issued yesterday in Minna by its state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Jonathan Vatsa, insisted that wasting such huge amount of money in celebrating democracy outside the state was a demonstration that the administration had failed the people.

“That the Chief Servant, fully aware that the administration has nothing to tell the people about his performance despite the huge monthly allocations it has collected running into billions of naira, ran abroad to hide his shame while his deputy, Ahmed Ibeto, led other aides to embark on the Abuja jamboree”, he said.

According to APC, “on May 29, a day set aside to be celebrated as democracy day where leaders are expected to tell the electorates what they have been able to accomplish with their money within the period under review, the over four million people of Niger state woke up to their disappointment and disbelieve that the PDP led administration of Governor Aliyu had moved the seat of power to Abuja for what the government called “interactive session on the 7 years of governor Babangida Aliyu as governor of Niger state”.

The party argued that while governors in their respective states took time to showcase their giant strides in all spheres of life in the development of their people in the last 4 to 7 years, the situation in Niger state was different adding that the state was like a ghost town with nothing to show or tell the people.
