The House of Representatives said it would resume consideration of a Bill to introduce far-reaching reforms in the Health sector.

The Deputy Speaker of the House, Rep Emeka Ihedioha disclosed this yesterday as he received the leader of the health Professionals Assembly, Dr. Godswill Okara at the National Assembly.

The Deputy Speaker promised that the House would accommodate the demands of the health sector association to expunge and include some clauses in the National Health Sector Bill before the House.

The Senate had discarded the views of the group in considering the legislation earlier. But while addressing the delegation, the Deputy Speaker pledged that the Green Chamber would consider suggestions by the association of health professionals in the course of looking at the Bill in plenary.

Earlier, the President of the Health Workers association Dr. Okara proposed that certain sections of the Executive Bill be expunged, while others be included to ensure that all health professionals, from Pharmacists to Laboratory Scientists and Nurses are involved in committees proposed in the impending law, to regulate the medical profession in the country.

Dr. Okara, who led leaders of different health sub-sectors to the House, regretted that their proposed amendments to the Bill sent to the Senate Health Committee were “thrown overboard”.
