The police yesterday arraigned one Musa Salami, a former staff of First City Monument bank in an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ court for misappropriating a bank customer’s money.

The accused, a marketer with the bank was said to have collected N19, 000 from one of the bank’s customers but failed to remit the money to the bank.

Police Prosecutor, Cpl. Francis Tanko, told the court that the accused was reported by one Olumide Mark, a staff of the bank on June 4.

Tanko said that the accused misappropriated the money and absconded to an unknown place until June 4 when he was caught and arrested.

According to Francis, the accused committed the offence of misappropriation contrary to Section 309 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, the accused pleaded not guilty and told the court that he collected the money from the customer but misplaced it on his way to the office.

He added that he promised to repay back the money when he collected his salary, but had an accident and his appointment with the bank was terminated thereafter, he could therefore not pay back the money.

Senior Magistrate Chinyere Nwacheonwu granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 with a surety who must have a means of livelihood and must live within the court’s jurisdiction.

She adjourned the matter to June 16 for continuation of hearing. (NAN)
