The Northern Elders Progressive Forum and Northern Professionals Development Group, have advised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, not to allow itself to be used as a tool for political vendetta, blackmail, or intimidation against individuals.
Addressing a press conference yesterday in Kaduna, the Chairman of the group, Dr Usman Sani, said the mischief makers also go through personal grudges, persecution, and the campaign of calumny to tarnish the image of certain personalities or any perceived political enemies of the characters hiding behind their executive power to unleash allegations through media for public consumption and sympathy.
The group expressed dismay over a recent Newspaper publication titled “EFCC revives 13 ex-Govs N772bn fraud cases”, saying the hurried publication has turned into a big embarrassment to the politicians, their families, political associates, and the nation in the quest for objectivity, a presumption of innocence, emotional, and moral psyches.
Sani however, expressed dismay over the Newspapers’ publication which hurriedly published the names of certain political leaders, and individuals with alleged accusations of amassing public wealth illegally without recourse to the due process and rule of law.
