Femi Oyelola, Kaduna.
In the spirit of development and progress, the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN,) has successfully laid a foundation for the building of a multipurpose centre in Kaduna, yesterday.
The foundation laying ceremony of the guest house and training centre in Barnawa, Kaduna, marked the beginning of greater achievements for the Union and its members who see it as a worthy investment.
According to the National President, John Adaji, it is a dream come true for the union after facing setbacks that hindered the commencement of the project.
He noted that even though the project recently commenced, it took the ideas, efforts and determination of past leaders to achieve its reality.
The president opined that there can never be any good structure without a proper foundation and whatever this union has achieved, they cannot forget the efforts visions and determination of our past leaders.
He therefore appreciated the past leaders and the members of the union for the support shown in difficult times, adding that it’s a win for them as a family.
‘This is an answer to one of the comments I ever made in the historic city of Kano in 2016. While making my acceptance speech during my first tenure as the President of this union, I did say that one of the missions and visions of myself and probably my colleagues is to improve on the investment of the union and I was clear that what I meant was, how to expand the coast of the structures owned by the union.”
“They made that clear as a road map for future leaders and as you are aware our union was one of the first unions with the vision and mission of owning a structure and we can beat our chest that by the time we were having structures and offices around the country, some of the big unions today had not started.”
“As the factories continue to close, the union must devise a means to improve the provision of income and the only way we can do that besides navigating into organising the unorganized, especially in the informal sector is to equally see how to improve on the investment we have.”
“The idea is that what is good for this big union having hotels and lodges would even be much more desirable for the National Union of Nursing and our thinking and mission is for us to have a lodge that can accommodate people and the union makes money out of it.”
“It is equally to provide a training centre for our members, both formal and informal sector and we know that when you talk of training, education, you can be assured that textile union is first and every other follows.”
“I appreciate all the veterans that are here as well as the representatives here because they have all worked hard to build the union and today, those structures put on the ground are part of what is assisting the union today and today’s generation must think for tomorrow, that is the point, the only way to go, is to plan for tomorrow which today is a good day to plan for the rainy times.”
“It was our wish that maybe, by the time we bought this place which was about three years ago, we desired to see how to possibly, even if it means partial commissioning before we run out of this commission but unfortunately one of our major setbacks was document challenges but today we thank God we have been given go-ahead to start and we are happy for that.
“Not to start at all would have been a lamentation but now we have gotten the go-ahead, I am confident that the union is continuity and for those who will come after, they will see to the end of this project.”
“It is our wish that while we are still alive, we’ll come back to join them to celebrate the commissioning of this project.”
Similarly, the General Secretary, Comrade Ali Baba remarked that t is a great achievement towards the building of a better future for the union.
