Chairmen of the 13 Local Government Councils, and overseers of Development Areas in Nasarawa state have been implored to sensitise their subjects on the need to always keep their environment clean in order to avoid contracting diseases.
This charge was given by the state commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources Honorable Dr Yakubu Kwanta, who noted that the administration of Engr Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state had introduced monthly sanitation exercise, as part of effort to keep the environment clean and free from environmental diseases.
Kwanta who stated this at the weekend while briefing Journalists shortly after observing the sanitation exercise, in Lafia the state capital.
“I commend the residents of the state for the compliance. We are gradually improving. Government will continue to campaign on the need for residents of the state to adhere by keeping their environment clean.
“We have renewed the operation pick Leaders on the streets by providing dustbin in strategic locations for residents to drop their refuse.
“We are calling on the community Leaders to educate their subjects in order to participate in the monthly exercise”, he said.
The commissioner also enjoined KeKe NAPEP, motorcyclists and NURTW officials to educate their members to comply with the rules and regulations governing the monthly sanitation by participating in the exercise or face punishment when caught violating the law.
