Media practitioners in the country have been enjoined to embark on solution journalism and write stories that reflect the reality of the nation without fear or favour.
The Niger State Governor, Umar Muhammad Bago gave the advise at the Grand Finale of the 2023 press week of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger state chapter and the presentation of awards to personalities who have distinguished themselves in the service to humanity.
Represented by the Niger state Secretary to the State Government SSG, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, who highlighted the relevance of the press in the promotion of developmental activities in the state, called for responsive journalism to enhanced development.
In his Keynote Lecture, the Director General, Voice of Nigeria, Jibrin Baba Ndace who also represented the Minister of Information and National Orientation, commended the state NUJ for the milestone achieved, clarifying the government’s stance in the moving some departments of Central Bank of Nigeria
and Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria to Lagos.
He challenged the media to embark on solution journalism that will give the required information and empower the citizens, facilitate collaboration hence the need for a balance reporting devoid of personal judgement in reportage.
The National President of NUJ, Comrade Chris Isiguzo said that journalism is not about antagonism but should be able to commend when necessary, criticized constructively and proffers solution to an identified problems. He applauded the Niger State Council of NUJ for organizing the Press Week that brought the people together under an umbrella.
Chairman, Niger State Council of NUJ, comrade Abu Nmadu explained that as agenda setters in the society, journalists must be constantly enlightened on the principles that guide the profession to enhance their performance.
