Man in trouble for receiving stolen property

A 31-year old man, Jide Obi of EDA Plaza at Jabi, in Abuja, is standing trial before a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ court, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for allegedly receiving stolen property.

The police prosecutor, Abu Opanachi, told the court that one Mr. James Adekola of Strong Solution Company at Utako District, Abuja lodged a report about Obi.

He said the case was reported at the Command Metro in Maitama.

Opanachi said Sunday Elom, Ahungwa Paul, Amodu Dauda, Haaga Simon, Shingi Richard and Ibrahim Ozovehe, all of Strong Solution Company, had conspired with Obi to steal some electrical materials.

He listed the electrical components to include five cables of light fitting, four pieces of 250 lamp breakers, and 38 metres of Armour cable.

The prosecutor said during investigation, it was discovered that the said items were sold to the accused person and some of the items were recovered in his possession.

The recovered items are eight pieces of light fitting, two pieces of breakers and two 2.5mm single and flexible cable.

Opanachi said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 317 of the Penal code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty and denied the allegation.

The magistrate, Mr. Chukwuemeka Ubani, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N300, 000 with a surety in like sum; and must swear to an affidavit of means and be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
