You are no-longer marginalized , Akpabio tells South East

President of the Senate ,Godswill Akpabio has declared that the South East region can no longer complain of marginalization following the approval of the South East Development Commission by the two chambers of the National Assembly.

The South East geo-political zone have consistently complained about marginalization and have attributed the raising cases of insecurity to the alleged marginalization .

The activities of Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and other vices ranging from kidnapping to other vices are all blamed on marginalization of the zone.

Although the Senate effected series of amendments to the bill earlier passed by the House of Representatives, the bill was without dissenting voices .

Some of the amendments made to the bill includes the removal of the provision for inclusion of the police ,Army and civil defense as statutory members. This was replaced with Representatives of the six geo-political zones .

Senate also expunged the inclusion of confirmation powers to include the House of Representatives, and restricted the powers of confirmation to the Senate as contained in the 1999 constitution .

The upper legislative chambers also included three executive Directors as part of the management structure of the commission as well as Representatives of the ministries of finance , budget and planning as statutory members .

Senate similarly confirmed the nominations of twelve persons as members of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The confirmation was on the heels the report of the screening of the Senate committee on Banking,Insurance and Other Financial Institutions presented by Senator About,Mikhail Adetokunbo.
