Niger NLC says price control by govt will impoverish farmers

Date:

From Yakubu Mustapha Minna

The Chairman, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Niger state chapter, Comrade Idris Abdulkareem Lafene has advised governor Mohammed Umar Bago that introduction of food price control will impoverished those that purchased farm input at high prices.
Lafene made this known during the nationwide protest over hardship in Minna, Niger state capital.
The labour union begun its matched from Labour House along General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida road to the State House of Assembly to register their grievances over the economic hardship faced by Nigerians.
The protest witnessed large turn out of members from various affiliated unions and Associations, including NLC, TUC, NULGE, community Associations, students unions, NAAT among others.
Labour Leader lamented over the rising cost of living that the measures put in place by the Niger state government would discourage farmers from farming if they don’t recover what they have spent on their farms.
He said while government makes effort to regulate food prices, similar efforts should be made to reduce the prices of things farmers need to achieve a balance in all measures.
Comrade Lafene however called on both federal and state governments to put in place measures in tackling the security challenges that had displaced several farmers in the state and Nigeria to enhance food security.
