Gov. Alia sets up Judicial Commissions to probe Ortom

Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has constituted two(2)Judicial Commissions of Inquiry to probe the administration of immediate past Governor Samuel Ortom.
The Commissions are, Judicial Commission into the funds(income and expenditure)of the State from May 29, 2015 to May 28, 2023 as well as the Judicial Commission into the Sale/lease of asssets, companies, markets(both State and local government), from May 29, 2015 to May 28, 2023 as well as moribund companies.
Swearing-in the Commissions on Monday night at the Banquet hall, Government House, Makurdi, the Governor explained that it is part of his government agenda to promote accountability and good governance of the State, maintaining that the commissions are not bureaucratic in nature but meant for the good of the Benue people.
He said members of the Commissions were chosen because of their unassasible record and integrity, urging them to be guided by the overall interest of the State.
Governor Alia also said his administration will always prioritize the welfare of the people, noting that it is imperative that every money spent propels the growth and development of the State in all aspects, stressing that any act of mismanagement will jeopardizes our collective effort.
“In our pursuit for good governance, we will continue to prioritize inclusivity. It is incumbent to imbibe principles of accountability, transparency and good governance to safeguard the good of the people of the State. Diligence is pivotal to the work at hand”,Alia said.
While citing Section 2 CAP 40 which empwer him to set a Judicial Commission of Inquiry into administration of funds of the State, the Governor who named Justice Taiwo Taiwo as Chairman, said it has 6 months to sit except otherwise, extended by him.
