The House of Representatives on Wednesday called on President Bola Tinubu to direct the security agencies to sustain their pressure on criminals perpetrating violence and criminal activities in Katsina State and the country in general.
The House resolution was sequel to a motion of urgent national importance moved by
Hon. Sada Soli during plenary in Abuja.
Moving the motion, Soli expressed concerns about the devastating impact of banditry on the lives and livelihoods of people of Katsina State, adding that the escalating banditry attacks in Katsina State has resulted to loss of lives, destruction of properties and kidnapping of innocent men, women, and children every blessed day.
He said the security agencies are yet to take immediate and decisive action to address the security challenges in Katsina State.
He called for the increase in deployment of security personnel to the affected communities to combat banditry and restore peace and order.
He further explained that some gangs of armed bandits from neighboring Kaduna and Zamfara States are making all efforts to gain control over some communities in Katsina State.
Soli worried that Katsina State is near being overrun by the criminal elements if no urgent and decisive action is taken to curb the activities of the bandits and restore peace to about 18 local governments.
House also d the ferocious operations conducted on Monday 4th March, 2024 by our gallant troops in Kurfi and Safana Local panda Areas of Katsina State which resulted in the killing of two notorious bandits while other fled with various gunshot wounds.
To this end while the House observed a minute silence in honour of the deceased victims being killed, the House also urged NEMA and Ministry of Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to urgently provide humanitarian assistance to the affected communities and support the displaced persons acres the state.
