CAN commiserates with Peoples Daily over Sports Editor’s death

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has offered its condolences to the People’s Daily Newspaper family on the sudden and tragic passing of Mr. Albert Akota, who was a correspondent covering the activities of the Association.
Until his demise on March 16, 2024, at the age of 47 years, Mr. Akota was the Sports Editor of PeoplesDaily and member of FCT Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
CAN, in a condolence letter signed by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, and addressed to the Editor -in-Chief, People’s Daily Newspaper, Abuja, said the news of Mr. Akota’s untimely departure has deeply saddened the leadership and entire CAN community.
It added that Late Akota’s dedication to his work and his commitment to reporting the activities of CAN with integrity and precision were truly admirable.
According to CAN, Mr. Akota’s presence will be sorely missed, and his contributions to journalism will be remembered with great respect.
“It is with a heavy heart that I write to offer my deepest condolences to the People’s Daily Newspaper family on the sudden and tragic passing of Mr. Albert Akota, your esteemed correspondent covering the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
“Please convey my sympathies to Mr. Akota’s family, friends, and colleagues at People’s Daily Newspaper.
“May they find solace in the memories of his professionalism, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his craft.
“During this difficult time, my thoughts and prayers are with all those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside Mr. Akota. May his legacy continue to inspire all of us to uphold the values of truth, integrity, and compassion in our work and interactions with others.
“May you find strength and comfort in the love and support of those around you as you mourn the loss of a cherished colleague and friend
“Mr. Akota’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him”, the letter read.
