From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi

Sports Writers Association of Nigeria,SWAN, Benue State Chapter has lamented over the decay in sporting facilities in the State.
The association in a communique signed by its Chairman John Shianondo and Secretary Tamenor Kwaghzer at the end of its Congress on Wednesday in Makurdi, particularly frowned at the bad state of the Aper Stadium, noting that the situation has caused Lobi Stars Football club the opportunity to play their home matches for two (2) seasons away from the state capital thereby denying the state the needed revenue as well as the teeming club fans and other football lovers in the state opportunity to watch the team.
Similarly, members of the association decried the untimely release of funds to the club and urged the Governor to make timely releases of money to the club for seamless performance, progress and development.
They also, averred that stepping up of sponsorship for Lobi Stars will enable the Club to maintain the good performance it has displayed in the current Nigeria Professional Football League season.
Benue SWAN commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for the prompt and consistent payment of salaries to civil servants particularly for the good decision to commence payment of the arrears.
The association applauded Governor Alia for the execution of mass infrastructural projects in the state less than one year in office and urged him to sustain the tempo of good governance.
“Similarly, the association praises the cordial working relationship between Governor Alia and his Deputy, Sam Ode who doubles as the Chairman of Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi. The congress urged the relationship to continue.
“We commend the Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dominic Iorfa, management, technical crew and players of the club for the scintillating performance that has put Lobi on front burner in the ongoing NPFL season.”
