Rainstorm kills boy, destroy several houses in Jigawa

One boy was feared dead and four people seriously injured in Limawa town, Dutse local government area of Jigawa state as a result of a strong wind storm.

Reports from the state indicated that over 100 house were destroyed as a result of the disaster in Limawa, Galamawa, Ma’ai and Ketare areas all in Dutse local government area.

Speaking to our reporter some residents affected by the wind storm and heavy downpour said the problem occurred at around 6:30 pm of Saturday.

Malam Rabi’u, of Limawa town, said “Almost all the houses in our area were in one way or the other affected; as at this moment, I am on my way to buy some roofing materials to repair my two rooms that have been destroyed by the storm”.

“Presently, some four people of my neighbour’s house are in the hospital receiving medical attention from injuries sustained as a result of the incident”, Rabi’u disclosed.

According to him, “I heard that a wall fell on a boy, who died instantly; this disaster is the most serious one in the last 25 years”.

Also speaking, one Alhaji Murtala of Galamawa said “Limawa, Ketare, Ma’ai and here (Galamawa) over 100 houses were destroyed; even in our compound four of us were affected”.
