A group, Nigeria First Project, has outlined the achievements of President Bola Tinubu as he makes his anniversary.
The group made this know on Sunday while addressing journalists in Abuja.
The text which was read by Hamza Umar Saulawa, Coordinator and Comrade Bishir Dauda Sabuwar,
Director, Research and Documentation, said the president has made improvements in various areas.
DEFENCE
The group said there is a paradigm shift in the way and manner the various Security agencies work.
“We have discovered that the secret behind the tremendous improvement in the sphere of security of our nation is associated with the overcoming of rivalry and battle of supremacy amongst the various security agencies. In achieving the foregoing, we have identified that in the last one year, the office of the National Security Adviser has played an indispensable role. We therefore commend the National Security Adviser, and urge him to continue toeing this line of promoting healthy synergy amongst the security agencies.”
The group said it is also impressed by the performance of Tinubu administration in counterterrorism and fighting against armed banditry and kidnappings for ransom. “Our gallant military troops deserve commendation for neutralising 9,303 terrorists/criminals, including degenerated kingpins such as Damina, Dangote ,Kachalla Azarailu, Boderi,to mention but a few . This is apart from arrest of 6,998 ,and rescued of 4,641 hostages .
“Looking at all the facts and figures regarding the success recorded in the security and defence of our country ,our coalition is of the view that Tinubu government deserves applause not castigation.And it is on the course of restoring peace and security in Nigeria.”
EDUCATION
The group further said the education sector has witnessed massive transformation in the one year of the Tinubu’s administration.
“Secondly , in the 2024 Budget,we acknowledge that the president has allocated the sum of N1.54 trillion to the education sector . This has been noted in the analysis made by Premium Times,an online News Platform,“Education sector has one of the highest allocations alongside defence and security”.
“We believe that this was the first step towards transforming the Education sector Tinubu administration has taken,because without adequate funding,the sector will remain in perpetual comatose.
“Worthy of mentioning is the priority Tinubu administration accorded the teacher education. This includes training and retraining of teachers.For instance, the training of 22,500 teachers on digital Literacy and remote learning across 16 States of the Federation, training of 35,000 teachers across the country on the use of ICT in the classroom and 400 Library staff on ICT in Library Services and specialised IT skills; provided ICT equipment for the production of digital content for all 36 States and the FCT.
“Equally important, is the welfare of students. Besides signing the landmark Students Loan Act, which no doubt would improve the capacity of the common people to access and afford quality tertiary education,the Tinubu administration through the ministry of education has also granted scholarship to over 345 Nigerian scholars in foreign institutions under the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA); facilitated the award of 51 scholarships to Commonwealth scholars under the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Award (CSFA); also 2,122 Postgraduate and Undergraduate students benefitted from Nigerian Scholarship Award; awarded scholarship to 145 Girl-Child in Government owned tertiary institution under Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and 16,000 students studying Education in both Universities and Colleges of Education benefited from Bursary awards.
Other milestone achievements in the education sector is the establishment of (9) new Federal Science and Technical Colleges (FSTCs), Thirteen (13) Federal Universities out of which eight (8) were Colleges of Education converted to Universities; six (6) Federal Polytechnics and six (6) Federal Colleges of Education to accommodate the newly trained teachers and non-teaching staff and granted autonomy to Federal Tertiary Institutions for recruitment of academic and non-academic staff,etc.
All the aforementioned have been delivered in one year; yet the cynics are yet to acknowledge these.
HOUSING AND URBAN DEVE
LOPMENT:
“Furthermore,the Nigeria First Project has identified another critical sector which Tinubu administration recorded sterling performance. This is Ministry of Housing and Urban Development under the stewardship of an experienced Political technocrat, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa .
“Just in one year,the president Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has already launched the first phase of the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Development at Karsana in FCT Abuja on Thursday ,8th February,2024 in which 20,000 Housing units would be constructed.
“There is no gainsaying the fact that the construction of 50,000 Housing units by Tinubu administration will stimulate the economy by directly and indirectly creating jobs as well as accelerate Nigeria’s journey towards addressing housing deficit,and thus achieve goal 11 of the United Nations.
“What is even more unique and innovative about Renewed Hope Cities and Estates is that a portal has been created so that Nigerians who want to own a decent home can apply even if they don’t know anybody.
“Other achievements of Tinubu led administration in this sphere include :
“Providing grant support of N980,095,000 support to Mortgage Institutions.
“3,000 persons benefited from Mortgage Loan,among others.”
SOCIAL SAFETY NET PROGRAMS:
“Although most of the policies of Tinubu administration are based on market economy ideology, the administration is showing high commitment in implementing welfare schemes that target the poor and the vulnerable. we have identified the following impactful programmes that directly and positively touch the lives of the poor and the vulnerable people. They are as follows:
a.N35,000 wage award to workers for 6 months. (As palliative over fuel subsidy removal).
b. Cash transfer of N25, 000 to 15 Million of the poorest and vulnerable households for 3 months (As palliative over fuel subsidy removal).
c. Released of 42,000 Metric tonnes of grains for free distribution to the most vulnerable persons.
d. Disbursement of N50 Billion Presidential conditional grant to traders, food vendors, artisans among others, who earn a living in the blue sector.
e. Establishment of Nigerian Consumer Credit Scheme with N100 Billion as a take-off fund, to deepen financial inclusion.
f. Implementation of Skill-up artisans (SUPA) to empower 10 million artisans.
“No doubt these are far-reaching measures that will reduce poverty, inequality, create employment and wealth,in Nigeria.”
ANTI-CORRUPTION :
“For the first time in the history of Nigeria,we are seeing a sincere fight against corruption. The usual accusation of partiality in fighting corruption in Nigeria is over now .This is because,president Tinubu has set example,for instance , suspending a minister of his cabinet (Betta Edu,) over allegations of corruption.
“Also , a number of highly placed chieftains of the governing party,APC ,such as former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello,former minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, former minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Farouk are all being investigated by the EFCC. This is an indication that the anti-corruption bodies are enjoying absolute freedom, working without any interference.
GOVERNANCE:
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a reformer. He has taken many far reaching decisions that his predecessors refused to take.
“The implementation of Oronsaye Report for instance,is one of such decisions. For donkey years, experts and public sector reformers have continued to lament over lack of political will to Implement necessary measures that would curb the cost of governance, inefficiency and corruption.Now has started taken steps towards Implementing the Oronsaye report in order to reduce cost of governance. This is a commendable efforts.
“Important development,is monitoring and evaluation Initiative of the government through the office of Hadiza Bala Usman who is the Special Adviser on Policy Coordination. The creation of Central Delivery Coordination Unit is not only promoting public accountability and transparency, but also it empowers the citizens, to be able to assess the performance of the ministers, through the Citizens Delivery Tracker Application.”
