As part of the institutionalization of the Social Protection Management Information System (SP MIS,) Save the Children International in collaboration with the Kaduna State Social Protection Investment Programmes Agency (KADSIPA) and the Kaduna State Planning and Budget Commission (PBC) has commenced a 3-day capacity building and training workshop for stakeholders.
The training aimed at strengthening the capacity of stakeholders towards the utilization of the MIS to foster accountability in social protection programs of government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
George Akor, a Social Protection Specialist said beyond developing the MIS, the need to continually engage the structure to sustain it is key. “The training is essentially to support the structure to build and institutionalize the Social Protection System”.
Highlighting that Kaduna State is the first sub-national to institutionalize the SP MIS, it is imperative to ensure that it is sustained. “We have looked at the gaps that are in the system and the need to continually engage with it to make it alive. Now that it has been created and handed to the government, it is important to have the skills on how to use it.
According to Rebecca Maulome Padonu, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Gender and Social Inclusion the system is a timely initiative towards ensuring that there is a reliable data system for SP programmes in the State. “The operationalization will ensure data accuracy, data reliability and improve accountability for both government and civil society organizations”.
The training is part of the Expanding Social Protection for Inclusive Development (ESPID) Project of Save the Children International.
