Hunger, malnutrition hits IDPs camp in Niger State

Niger state Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) have lambasted the state government for its nonchallant attitude towards their plight and total neglect in Shiroro, Munya and Rafi local government areas of the state.
This was disclosed by various victims in an interview when members of Niger state Correspondents Chapel of NUJ visit to the camps at Gwada and Kuta in Shiroro local government area, as the situation worsening daily.
The Shiroro local government IDP Desk Officer and Coordinator, Yusuf Bala Kuta in an interview decried inadequate food stuffs leading to hunger and malnutrition, education and health as the challenges confronting them at the camp.
He explained that the camp has on record 1,119 women, 2,511 children, 87 men and including 38 women from Zamfara state. Although, more victims are outside the camp while about 50 malnurished children are being managed.
An Internal Displaced Persons IDPs, Ahmed Al-Mustapha lamented over inadequate accomodations, acute shortage of food, out of school children, diseases, lack of toilet facilities as the available one is filled up in the camp and lack of security presence to restore peace and stability in their various communities to enable them return home.
A widow Hasiya Shuaibu from Bassa community who’s husband died during recent attack decried over non presence of security in their communities and lack of weapons for their local vigilantes to counter the criminals during attacks as they were left to their faith to defend themselves, called for government commitment to end insecurity.
