Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu, Chairman Senate Committee on Police Affairs, yesterday heeded the call on him to contest the governorship of Ebonyi state as he declared interest in the position.
Nwagu, at an interaction with newsmen in Abuja, said he had been inundated with calls from critical stakeholders from his state to contest for governorship having served them meritoriously in the past in different capacities.
The Senator said “My position today is not an official declaration but an acceptance of the call from my people in Ebonyi state to make myself available for the position of Governor. I therefore most humbly inform you people here present that in total obedience to this clarion call from my people, I have decided to make myself available to them as a gubernatorial aspirant in Ebonyi state under the platform of PDP.”
He however cautioned that his intention for the conference was to merely an indication and affirmation to run for the state governorship election and not a campaign because the PDP has yet to release the guidelines for the polls.
Asked on his chance of winning the election, Nwagu said he was the most qualified among the aspirants for the position in the state having begun his political career as a councillor to a local government Chairman, and later to a member of the House of Representatives before being elected a Senator in 2011.
According to him, his records of service to the people of the state speak volumes and as such would not need further introduction to the electorates in the state.
Nwagu however disclosed that he would prioritize the issue of security if he eventually gets elected the governor of the state by 2015.
