From Femi Oyelola, Kaduna
Viewership of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Brazil suffered a setback in Kaduna, as football fans who patronize viewing centres stayed indoors following a bomb scare at one of the platforms.
Investigation by our reporter revealed that the centre located along Nigeria Defence Academy, Badarawa main road, was crowded with viewers watching the match between Brazil and Mexico yesterday until somebody raised alarm at about 8:47pm of a bag dropped in the main entrance of the gate.
Because of this, within a twinkle of an eye, people started scampering to safety.
The attention of men from the Nigerian Police, Malali Division, was drawn to the scene and they rushed in and condone off the area, until men from the Anti Bomb Squared from the state command arrived at the scene and took the bag away.
As at the time of filing this report, police were said to have been working to trace the address of owner of the bag.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Kaduna police command, Aminu Lawan said there was no cause for alarm, but called on people patronizing viewing centres and the operators of such centres to be vigilant and watch out for suspicious movement during the matches.
However, the bomb scare forced other viewing centres to quickly shut down their business premises, as people left the place after receiving the information.
Alhaji Muhammed Ibrahim, who operates a viewing centre along Liberia road Malali, in Kaduna North local government, expressed dismay over the present insecurity in the country, saying it has almost put them out of business.
