Kaduna State Government has put plans in motion to ensure that the agricultural sector serves as a checkmate to curtail the alarming nutrition indices in the State.
The Deputy Gov. of the State, Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe asserted this during the launch of the Kaduna State Agricultural Sector Strategy for achieving food systems that improves nutrition.
The Deputy Governor who was represented by the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Alh. Murtala Muhammed Dabo said although the indicators in the Agricultural Sector Strategy are many, the State Governor has given special priority by moving to address the highlighted issues.
The Deputy Governor said Kaduna as an Agricultural State and the largest producer of maize in the country, working round the clock to ensure that farming is made easy for farmers.
“The Ministry is working very hard, and the government, through its sustained agenda of Sen. Uba Sani, is willing to support, to address most of the highlighted issues.
“A lot of smallholder farmers have quality seeds they planted and we are working very hard in the Ministry to see that in the next one to three weeks, there will be distribution of fertilizers.
“Access to quality inputs is what affects the yield and we’ll graduate to the issue of malnutrition which is being discussed today.”
