Speaking at the DPPRS 2024 public presentation of recent education publications held yesterday, Secretary, FCT Education Secretariat, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, described the unveiling and applying the documented insights and recommendations to teaching and learning as a step in the right direction, and in tandem with keeping abreast of identified emerging issues in education.
Hayyo, who was represented by Director, in charge of Higher Education, Mr. Siambola Olawale, noted that from the titles of the publications, they are expected to address the emerging issues, not covered by the curriculum.
He urged teachers, school managers, parents or any other stakeholder involved in education across the FCT to ensure the domestication of the
contents of the published document to their peculiarities.
His words: “I strongly urge you as critical stakeholders in education, not only to obtain copies of these publications, but to read each from page 1 to the end thoroughly.
“Ensure also, that apart from reading, you domesticate the contents to your peculiarities as teachers, school managers, parents or any other stakeholder involved in education.”
He further adds: “Education is the corner-stone of all national development efforts that is why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu prioritize it as one of the major expected deliverables of his administration.
“He also caused all the major stakeholders to sign performance bond with him on this deliverable. He did not stop at ihat;a team of experts monitor the performance in education periodically and report back to him.
“In the Federal Capital Territory, we are on top of the game. We have never been found wanting.”
Earlier, in his welcome address, DPPRS Director, Joseph Ogbogu Abunike, explained that as the titles suggest, they are all focused on issues in education not envisaged or infused in the last curriculum review.
Abunike however disclosed that there would have been a fourth publication titled:- Annual School Census, 2021/2022 and 2022/2023, but was not ready due to little hitches, which will come out in two weeks time.
According to him, DPPRS is charged with policy, planning and research issues for the FCT Education Secretariat; and it also deals with generation, processing, storage and retrieval of relevant education data for planning, reporting and other uses.
