Applicant bags 6 months’ imprisonment for stealing

Date:

A Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ court, Abuja, yesterday sentenced an applicant, Kabiru Maisaje, to six months imprisonment for stealing a phone and a laptop worth N200,000.

The Senior Magistrate, Aliyu Shaffa, sentenced Maisaje, 28, after he pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of house breaking, criminal trespass and theft.

Shaffa, who did not give the convict an option of fine, also ordered the convict to pay N200,000 to the complainant.

Prosecutor Umar Ango had told the court that one Salisu Wambai of Jabi, Abuja, lodged the matter at the Wuse Police Station, Abuja on June 19.

Ango said the convict trespassed into Wambai’s compound, broke the bedroom’s window and entered the room.

He said that the convict then gained access to the sitting room and stole a laptop and a Samsung galaxy phone valued at N200,000.

He said that Maisaje admitted the offence, which contravenes Sections 79, 356 and 288 of the Penal Code, during investigation.

Maisaje pleaded for leniency saying “I have not done it before and I will not do it again please have mercy on me.’’ (NAN)
