2 guards docked for theft

Date:

Two security guards were yesterday arraigned before a Kado Grade 1 Area court, Abuja, for alleged mischief and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Simeon Ibrahim, gave the names of the two accused as Jonathan Paul, 20, and Sani Philemon, 19.

Ibrahim said the accused were both security men at Plot 94, Cadastral Zone, behind Lake View Estate, Abuja.

He said Paul and Philemon were charged on a three-count charge of joint act, mischief and theft.

He told the court that Mr. Isimi Babatunde of same address with the accused reported the matter to the Utako Police Station on June 22.

The prosecutor said that the complainant reported that on the same day, when he returned from work, he discovered that his car and his security men had vanished.

He said the stolen car, a Mercedes 4matic C350, was valued at N7.5 million.

Ibrahim alleged that the accused absconded with the vehicle to Kaduna.

He said the complainant promptly reported the case to the police, who immediately commenced investigation into the matter.

According to the prosecutor, the stolen vehicle was traced to Kaduna, but it was completely damaged.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 79, 288 and 327 of the Penal code respectively.

The accused, if found guilty, would be liable to imprisonment for a term of not less than seven years with an option of fine.

However, Paul and Philemon pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to them.
