2 men docked for receiving stolen property

The Police yesterday arraigned two men, Isah Aliyu, 27, and Onuegbu Okechukwu, 30, both of Mpape, Abuja, in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court for receiving stolen property.

The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Abdullahi Adamu, told the court that one Chibuzor Udebuani of Unique World, a private company, reported the case at the Wuse Police Station.

Adamu said that the accused bought the complainant’s property from one Linus Isaac of Mpape, Abuja, who broke into his house on June 30, and stole the items.

He named the items as a television set, a DSTV decoder, speakers, amplifiers and microphones.

The prosecutor said that out of the stolen property, valued at N3.5 million, some of the items valued at N750, were recovered during investigation.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes the provision of Section 317 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mr Chukwuemeka Ubani, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N400,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He ordered that one of the sureties must be a civil servant who must not be lower than than GL.12 in a Federal Government establishment.

Ubani said that the surety must deposit an original copy of letter of appointment, last promotion letter and a statement of account for the last six months.

According to him, the second surety can be any reasonable Nigerian with evidence of income tax payment for the year 2013 and that both sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned hearing in the case until July 14.
