NSCDC parades 13 suspected vandals in Abuja

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended 13 suspected vandals operating in Abuja.

NECDC said the arrest was made through comprehensive surveillance and patrols, as well as actionable tips from the public.

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commandant, Shola Odumosu, disclosed this information to journalists while parading the suspects in Abuja on Monday.

He said the suspects were arrested at various locations within the FCT between Saturday, September 7, and the early hours of Monday, September 9, 2024.

Those arrested were; 31-year-old Bitrus from Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and 32-year-old Girgi Peter from Gwer Local Government Area of Benue State, who were caught at Kukwaba 1 railway bridge at 2 a.m. on Sunday, September 8.

“Also apprehended were Auwal Umar, 42, Jacob Jibut, 39, and Abdulfatai Aliyu, 22. These individuals were caught vandalizing armored electrical cables along Namadi Azikiwe Way, opposite Wonderland, around 3:30 a.m. on the same day.

Odumosu said that Timothy Maigida, 28, from Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was also arrested while vandalizing armored cables at Mabuchi Motor Park on Sunday morning. The NSCDC operatives seized various tools, including shovels, diggers, and lengths of armored cables from the scene. Upon interrogation, Maigida confessed to the crime.

“Additional recovered items from all the suspects included cutlasses, iron rods, diggers, hacksaws, cannabis, batons, solar cables, generators, water pumps, and motorcycles, among others.”

Odumosu emphasized that following thorough investigations, the suspects would be charged in court to ensure justice is served. He warned individuals with criminal intent residing in the FCT to either cease their illegal activities or relocate from Abuja, stating, “We will leave no stone unturned to ensure they are brought to book.”
