The Adolescent Girls Education Empowerment (AGILE) a World bank funded project in collaboration with Zamfara State Government has massively embarked upon offers of cash transfer to the poor parents and guardians, aimed at encouraging functionality of schools attendance and regular enrollment of adolescent girls in the state.
This was disclosed by the State Coordinator of the AGILE in Zamfara State, Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdu Gusau while briefing newsmen in her office being of public enlightenment on the activities carried by the project.
Gusau explained that, the cash transfer is part of the efforts AGILE delved into which meant to be used by the parents to provide school uniforms for their children, books, transport fares amongst other related needed items.
She said the money could only be transferred and benefited to the targeted beneficiaries under the condition they must be functional to their schools.
The programme is also all about creating opportunities for the adolescent girls especially from the age of 10 to 20 to attain to the education most importantly to have them completed their secondary school education.
The coordinator further stated that, achievements by the programme in Zamfara State included assessments on 441 schools and non-formal learning centers designated for rehabilitation and the provision of equipment for digital and livelihood skills, with a view to successfully accomplish it’s mandate as contained in an agreement with the World bank.
She commended Zamfara State Government under Dauda Lawal-led administration for it’s unreserved support and cooperation in the areas of implementation of the programme’s targeted goals which indeed is yielding positive outcome for education and adolescent girls in the state.
“We are targeting 44,000 out of school adolescent girls and new enrollment across the state and 441 schools and non formal learning centers were assessed for renovation and would be provided with digital and livelihood skills across the centers”, Gusau reiterated.
