GOC extols troops’ courageous onslaught against bandits in Niger

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, has lauded the gallant efforts of the military as they battle bandits and other criminals to ensure peace and stability in Niger State.

 

The GOC stated this during an operational visit to formations and units in the state to assess troops’ readiness and boost their morale.

 

The Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 1 Division Nigerian Army/ Sector 1 Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt.-Col. Ajemasu Jingina, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Kaduna.

 

“The Nigerian Army appreciates your dedication and contributions toward national peace. You must continue to uphold professionalism in all operations,” Wase said while addressing troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Erena in Shiroro Local Government Area.

“Let me convey the goodwill message from the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, who commends you for your gallantry and resilience.”

 

The GOC, who is also the Commander, Sector 1 Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), lauded the troops’ domination of their area of operations against terrorist elements and urged them to sustain the tempo.

 

Addressing troops of 18 Brigade, the GOC said the visit was aimed at reassessing operational preparedness on the frontlines, and urged the personnel to prioritise force protection.

 

He assured them that their welfare remains a priority of the Army Headquarters.

 

Wase told the commanders to sustain operational momentum in collaboration with other security agencies and emphasised the need for continuous engagement with stakeholders to strengthen civil-military relations.

Wase was also at the Nigerian Army Aviation Wing at the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, Minna, where he was received by the Coordinator, Brig.-Gen. A.A. Ibrahim.

 

The GOC was briefed on operational activities by a representative of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Squadron and later toured the facilities.

 

In furtherance of non-kinetic operations, the GOC paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Bahago, where he appreciated the traditional ruler’s support for the military.

 

He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to securing the area to enable farmers carry out their activities without fear.

 

Responding, the Emir described the Nigerian Army as a dependable force that was restoring hope to the people, and prayed for continued success.

Similarly, Wase was at the residence of former President General Ibrahim Babangida where he  thanked him for his continued support and prayers for the Armed Forces.

 

Responding, the former head of state appreciated the visit and expressed optimism that the military would succeed in its mission to secure the country.
