Date:

From Mustapha Adamu, Kano

Kano state governor, Abba Yusuf has presented the proposed 2025 budget N549,160,417,663.00 to the House of Assembly on Friday.
Our correspondent reports that education has taken the lion share in the 2025 appropriation with N168,350,802,346,19, representing 31 percent of the total sum, just like in the 2024 budget.
It could be recalled that education got 29 percent of the total 2024 budget of N437.3billion, but is a little higher on the 2025 proposed budget.
Giving the breakdown of the budget, tagged Budget of Hope, Human Capital and Economic Development to the members of the assembly, Yusuf disclosed that the capital component of the budget is N312, 634,912,672.18, while the recurrent expenditure is set at N236,525,504,990.82.
“Manufacturing, Commerce, Industry and Tourism got the lowest share of N3,887,338,871.45, representing 1.22 percent.
“The 2025 budget, when approved, is projected to have a ratio of capital to recurrent 57:43 percent respectively.
“Most of the capital spending will be in the Social and Economic Sectors to the tune of N461,447,963,240.86.
“Mr. Speaker, Honourable Members, the breakdown above clearly indicates that the priorities of our administration in 2025 are human capital and infrastructural development.
“However, we have pledged to increase access to quality education despite the meager resources.
“It is, therefore, with great pleasure and a deep sense of responsibility that I lay before this Honourable House, the 2025 Budget of Kano State, which I tagged the ‘‘Budget of Hope, Human Capital and Economic Development”, Yusuf concluded.
