The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Rt. Hon. Yusif Abdullahi Ata, has paid a surprise visit to the 300-unit Lambu Housing Estate in Kano State.
In a statement by the Ata’s spokesman, Adamu Aminu in Kano on Monday, during the inspection, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress “but noted significant delay”.
Some parts of the housing estate, according to the statement, were commendable, “while others were unimpressive due to delays.”
He said the Minister attributed these delays to inadequate infrastructure, “including impassable roads, making it difficult for contractors to transport materials.”
He also expressed concerns about the quality of construction materials used, emphasizing the need for concrete foundations to ensure durability.
The Minister stressed that Kano is a top priority in the Tinubu-led government’s initiative to provide affordable housing solutions.
“Currently, only Katsina and Sokoto states have made notable progress in this regard The Minister assured that his ministry would work tirelessly to address the housing deficit in Kano.
On his part, according to the statement, the construction Supervising Officer, Mallam Umar attributed the delays to damp soil experienced during the last rainy season. However, he assured that the project is progressing smoothly.
The statement recalled thatPresident Bola Tinubu’s administration has made housing a key priority, with the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme aiming to construct 100,000 housing units nationwide. This initiative focuses on providing integrated living communities with equipped amenities to enhance residents’ quality of life.
“As Minister Ata works to actualize President Tinubu’s vision, the people of Kano await tangible results. With the Minister’s commitment and the Renewed Hope Programme, hope is revitalized for those seeking affordable housing solutions,” the statement concluded.
