Seven more people have been confirmed dead from the recent outbreak of cholera in Hadejia local government area of Jigawa state, bringing the total of those confirmed dead to ten.
As a result of the outbreak in Hadejia town, the number of affected people have risen to over 1,000, as at yesterday.
Visiting the Hadejia General Hospital, our reporter gathered that, scores of the epidemic victims are still on intensive care under admission at the hospital.
Investigations by our reporter indicated that, aside that of Hadejia city the disease was also reported in some local government areas of the state including Gwaram and Kirikasamma.
Confirming the increase n figure of the cases reported, the state commissioner of Health, Dr. Tafida Abubakar said, it is true that, the cases recorded was over 1,000 as of yesterday.
He also confirmed that many victims are still receiving treatment in Hadejia general Hospital and other Health care centres.
Dr. Tafida added that two additional people were also confirmed dead at home in a village around Kirikasamma local government.
He noted that due to the effective disease surveillance system the state, they were able to control the number of the death and also curb the spread of the disease.
The epidemic, which started manifesting itself about ten days ago, had within a few days killed 7 people before it was put under control, due to the government’s massive intervention in terms of free treatment and enlightenment’s campaign on the need to take all infected persons to hospital as early as possible.
Peoples Daily had last week reported seven people were confirmed dead while over 380 person were infected with the cholera outbreak in the state.
