AMAC Chairman emerges AU Agenda 2063 Ambassador

The African Union (AU) Agenda 2063 Ambassador Assembly has inducted the Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Hon. Christopher Maikalangu as an Ambassador.
A statement from the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Executive Chairman of AMAC, Kingsley Madaki, said the induction was done at a brief investiture ceremony, which took place in Abuja, recently.
It added that during the decorations, an AU scribe, Ambassador Ahmed Abubakar explained that the appointment was due to the Chairman’s outstanding achievement in AMAC.
“On behalf of the AU Agenda 2063, we are decorating you as an Ambassador because of your competence and to enable you promote the AU-AGENDA 2026 framework as a PAN African leader in order to achieve the “The Africa we want”.
“I hereby congratulate you on your well-deserved appointment,” he said.
Earlier in her welcome address, Amb. Irene Nwagbatal said that the event marked a significant moment in the pursuit of Africa’s transformation under Agenda 2063, a strategic framework aimed at fostering inclusive and sustainable development across the continent.
Nwagbatal emphasised the importance of collaboration among African nations to achieve peace, stability, and economic growth.
She celebrated Maikalangu for his contributions to the AU’s initiatives, embodying the vision of a prosperous and united Africa.
“We believe that this initiative will foster greater collaboration among African nations, promote peace and stability, and stimulate economic growth and development.
“As we celebrate a great personality today, one I can proudly call an achiever of our time. We do not only acknowledge the efforts of the AU Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Assembly’s leadership in promoting African unity and solidarity.
“But we also recognise the crucial role that an individuals like Maikalangu plays in supporting the implementation of African Union’s initiatives Agenda 2063 through his various contributions as an individual as well as as a public servant.
“We believe that together with progressive minded individuals, influencers and role models like Maikalangu we can create a prosperous and harm Africa that will benefit all its citizens and transform our continent to the africa we want,” she said.
Similarly, speaking, Amb. Anie George highlighted the need for a holistic approach to actualising the African vision, urging citizens to take responsibility for achieving the goals set out in Agenda 2063.
According to her, the investiture of new ambassadors, including Maikalangu is seen as a crucial step in aligning various national agendas, such as Nigeria’s with the broader goals of the African Union Agenda 2063.
She added that the collaborative effort aims to drive Africa’s development and transform the continent into a global powerhouse by 2063.
Responding, Maikalangu who accepted and appreciated the appointment, assured that he will contribute his quarter to achieve the objectives of African Union Agenda 2063 as the Ambassador.
“Our market women and farmers out there, if they have good roads, we will be seeing food all over. Let state and local governments keep doing their own. The local government areas are doing their own. Let me tell you, in one year, Nigeria will change.

“Imagine when it rains and you go to rural communities and they can’t go out because there’s no road. The rain is over. Let’s focus on giving our people in rural areas good roads, good schools, good hospitals and other basic amenities. The best we can do for our people is to give them infrastructure.

“That’s why I am very happy with our minister. He’s doing it at the state level, while we’re doing our own at the state level.

“I’m challenging all the LGA chairmen in Nigeria to do the same. Go back and work for your people. It’s not everything you will be calling on the state government”, he stated.
