How hoodlums stole N1m water pumps, generator coils, others in Kano primary school

Hoodlums have serially invaded Yalwa Model, Primary School, Dala Local Government area in Kano state, stealing valuable items worth millions of Nigeria.
Narrating the incidents to journalists in Kano on Monday, the headmaster of the school, Umar Aliyu, said the incident happened in quick succession since his coming to school as head teacher recently.
According to him, the miscreants took the advantage of the short perimeter fence to gain access to the school.
Aliyu narrated that recently, the hoodlums invaded the school via the fence and stole two water pumps valued at N500,000 each, which were installed by Non-governmental Organizations to provide water to the school.
Subsequently, according to the headmaster, the hoodlums returned and attempted to steal a SUMEC 300 generator, but due its weight, they could not carry it away but removed its coil wires and fled.
“Just on last Friday, the hoodlums scaled the fence and gained access to my office through ceiling. The tore the ceiling sheet and entered my office.
“When they didn’t get something to steak, they removed all the wearing in my office and entered our computer room through the ceiling. They took valuable items there.
“It was there they proceeded to steal the generator. But, because it is big and heavy, we assumed, that is why they could not carry it but removed all the coil wires.
“This happened in quick succession. Since my coming here as a hear teacher, we have recorded five incidents of theft,” Aliyu lamented.
He also lamented that the school lacks strong security guards as the ones available are all aged, calling on the state government to immediately take action being new blood to provide security in the school.
He said no arrest has been made so far, decrying that the school is facing serious criminality which calls for government’s intervention.
“We need the perimeter fence be alongated and out security guards are only three and not strong enough as they are all aged.
“We need fresh blood to man the gate and other area of the school,” he appealed
He also appealed to the state government to provide more toilets as the school uses only two for its 1164 pupils, giving room for open defecation.
According to him, the school also needs fortune as virtually all the pupils take lessons on bare floor.
The headmaster also appealed to the government to increase the number of teachers in the school as there are currently 15, which according to him, are not enough for over 1, 100 pupils.
“The government is doing its best but i believe it inherited thr plethora of problems in education sector and i believe with this kind of information, the government would do the needful,” he noted.
