The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has hailed the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde for the cancellation of all activities relating to the marking of his birthday on Wednesday (yesterday) in solidarity and compassion towards the families of the deceased children and the injured in the recent tragic stampede at a private children fun fair event in Ibadan, the State capital.
The party made the commendation in a statement on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon Debo Ologunagba in Abuja.
The leading opposition party maintained that Governor Makinde’s decision is in line with his stance that the purpose and essence of leadership is in pursuing the wellbeing and comfort of others and not self.
Such, the PDP said, distinguishes Governor Makinde as a leader with empathy and who at all times has the people’s interest and wellbeing at heart.
The statement reads, “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) acknowledges the unceasing compassion of the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde FNSE towards the people.
“The PDP notes Governor Makinde’s cancellation of all activities relating to the marking of his birthday today in solidarity and compassion towards the families of the deceased children and the injured in the recent tragic stampede at a private children fun fair event in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
“Governor Makinde’s decision is in line with his stance that the purpose and essence of leadership is in pursuing the wellbeing and comfort of others and not self. Such distinguishes him as a leader with empathy and who at all times has the people’s interest and wellbeing at heart.
“The PDP continues to pray and stand with Governor Makinde, the families of the victims and the people of Oyo state especially at this trying moment”, it concluded.
