President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled plans to implement a series of value re-orientation programs aimed at fostering patriotism, shared beliefs, and national cohesion as part of the National Identity Project.
In his New Year message to Nigerians, President Tinubu disclosed that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has already approved the National Values Charter, which he plans to officially launch in the first quarter of 2025.
The initiative is part of efforts to enhance citizens’ moral values and commitment to the nation under his Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The moral rectitude of citizens and their faith in our country are fundamental to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Tinubu said.
“In 2025, we will promote adherence to ethical principles and shared values under the National Identity Project. The National Values Charter will inspire mutual commitments between the government and citizens, fostering trust and cooperation in our diverse society.”
Paul Odenyi, Deputy Director of Press at the National Orientation Agency (NOA),in a statement on Wednesday emphasized that the National Identity Project comprises seven institutional policies designed to promote patriotism and instill a sense of shared purpose.
The project outlines values, national symbols, and characters that aim to strengthen connections between leaders and citizens.
As part of the initiative, the government will roll out a comprehensive national orientation campaign, encouraging allegiance to the nation and collaboration between citizens and the government.
Tinubu highlighted that successful implementation of government reforms depends on shared values and a collective commitment to national development.
In addition, the president announced plans to convene a national youth conference within the next three months, stating that relevant agencies have been directed to finalize preparations.
The new measures are expected to bolster Nigeria’s unity, promote ethical governance, and inspire citizens to contribute actively to national progress.
