Gov. Buni effectively tackling water scarcity in Yobe -Commissioner

The Yobe state Commissioner for the Ministry of Water Resources, Engineer Usman Maraya said, Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration is effectively addressing the challenges of water scarcity and, to ensure improved supply in the state.

A statement signed by the information officer of Ministry of Water Resources, Suleiman Baba Gimba, said the effort leading to a tripartite programme for water development involving the Federal, State and Local Governments have been geared towards providing a water supply system in Damaturu, called regional water supply project.

He also added that, the Governor Buni has considered injecting resources to the Yobe State Ministry of Water Resources and the two agencies of Yobe Water Corporation and the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) with a view to addressing water challenges faced at the urban and rural.

According to the statement, “The Ministry of Water Resources along with RUWASA and Yobe State Water Corporation are charged with the responsibility of the overall formulation of policies, coordination of water resources development and utilisation in the state; in urban and rural areas.

“The harmonious working relationship between the trio became visible, as Gov. Buni kept it as a promised, “Another critical area we have focused attention on, is in the area of water supply.

“The state government has awarded a contract for the conversion of 170 motorized boreholes at the ratio of 10 per Local Government to the solar system in order to ensure steady water supply to our teeming populace in the state. “

The statement added that, “State Govt. are the drilling of a complete package borehole at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH) Damaturu, Shagari Low-Cost, Yobe State Women and Children Hospital and the GRA area in Damaturu, rehabilitated the Dumar-Gumsi Water Project, broken down boreholes.

“Others include the continued with the construction of the Buni-Gari Water Treatment Plant, continued with the servicing and maintenance of 351 boreholes across major towns in the state, and drilled replacement boreholes in many estates across Damaturu metropolis.”
