The Vice Chancellor of Taraba State University, Prof. Sunday Bako, has announced that the university’s striking staff have reached an almost 100% agreement with the state government to resume work.
Prof. Bako disclosed this to journalists in his office in Jalingo on Tuesday.
He explained that after a successful engagement between the government and the Non-Academic Staff over the weekend, the union leaders have been asked to draft a communique outlining the agreement.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the communique will be vetted before being presented to the union members. He expressed optimism that the non-academic staff will call off their strike.
In light of this development, the university has officially rescheduled the suspended exams to continue on Monday, January 27, 2025.
“We have reached almost all agreements with the non-academic staff, and we believe that they will call off their strike as well,” Prof. Bako said.
The Vice Chancellor commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his commitment to resolving the union’s issues. He also thanked the Ministry of Tertiary Education for their relentless efforts in meeting the union’s demands to ensure an uninterrupted academic calendar.
