…shop for aspirant with late senator’s ideology

By Jude Opara

Supporters of the late Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial Zone, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, have regrouped.

They met yesterday, the first since the burial of the senator in November 2024.

The supporters who converged on Awka, the Anambra State capital, from various support groups previously maintained and oiled by the late Senator said their coming together was to form a common front and begin a search for a governorship candidate whose ideology matches that of their demised principal.

Before his death, Ubah, who had already disclosed his intention to contest the Anambra governorship seat on the platform of All Progressives Congress, (APC), was very optimistic of his victory and outlined various ways he intended to develop the state.

During a press conference, a former Chief of Staff of the late Senator, Mr Vin Onyeka said the essence of coming together was to ensure that the ideals of the senator remained alive, and that the groups supported only a candidate who shared the same vision for Anambra as their former principal.

Onyeka said: “As we continue to mourn the painful and untimely departure of our beloved Principal, Senator lfeanyi Ubah, we remain committed to upholding his legacy and vision for a better Anambra State.

“In light of the forthcoming November 8, 2025, Anambra governorship election, we wish to inform the general public, our supporters, and political stakeholders that we have not endorsed or thrown our weight behind any aspirant.

“Our political structure is built on the principles of human capacity development, infrastructural transformation, and selfless service to the people. We are carefully scrutinizing the antecedents, leadership qualities, and commitment of various aspirants to the core ideals that Senator lfeanyi Ubah championed.

“The leadership of this political movement is working diligently and consulting widely to ensure that when the time comes, we make an informed and strategic decision that aligns with the vision and dreams of our late Principal.”

He listed the yardstick with which it would consider candidates to include; good governance, human capacity development, infrastructural transformation, economic empowerment, security and inclusive leadership that prioritizes the welfare of the people.
