National Conscience Party, NCP, Katsina state chapter, has vowed to institute a court action to stop the conduct of forthcoming local government election in the state unless the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) abides by the electoral act.
The party in a statement signed by its state chairman, Alhaji Abdulmumini Shehu Sani, and made available to newsmen in Katsina said it had instructed its lawyers to prepare the court papers.
According to him, the grouse of the party against the conduct of the election revolved around non-consultation with the political parties and non display of voter register.
“If you look at it carefully they claimed that they have conducted display of voters’ register. We make bold to say no update of voters’ register was conducted and therefore we cannot allow election to take place without correcting this anomaly” he alleged.
The chairman similarly accused the electoral body of double speak when the commission alleged that it would not shift the election but only to turn round and extend it by 35 days.
Sani therefore advised the electoral body to be honest and transparent in its dealing with political parties and other stakeholders in the state with a view to saving itself from blame.
He added “political parties too have to show commitment, honesty and discipline for the success of any electoral process. In a situation where political parties are playing double standards, we cannot have progress”.
