The Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce (NACC) has pledged to deepen bilateral trade and investment between Nigeria and the United States, as newly inaugurated President Sheriff Balogun unveiled an ambitious agenda to drive expansion, innovation, and economic impact.
Balogun, who became the Chamber’s 20th President during a ceremony commemorating NACC’s 65th anniversary in Lagos, vowed to reposition the organization as a leading force in facilitating Nigeria–US business relations.
“Under my leadership, the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce will double down on its mission to foster trade and investment through high-level dialogue, strategic business missions, and stronger engagement with US enterprises and policymakers,” Balogun said.
He described the current global economic environment as one defined by uncertainty, but also opportunity citing the recent suspension of tariffs by former US President Donald Trump on 90 countries and the broader geopolitical tension reshaping trade routes.
“Nigeria cannot afford to be a bystander as the global trade map is redrawn,” Balogun warned. “We must engage actively and seize new opportunities with clarity and courage.”
Balogun’s three-pronged strategy — expansion, innovation, and impact — includes:
Establishing new NACC chapters across Nigeria and the US to better serve businesses seeking cross-border opportunities.
Leveraging digital platforms and e-commerce tools to enhance members’ competitiveness.
Supporting MSMEs, unlocking access to finance, and fostering public-private partnerships to boost exports to the US.
He also announced upcoming initiatives designed to attract resources, promote entrepreneurship, and drive Nigeria’s integration into the global supply chain.
“We will ensure that Nigerian businesses are not just consumers in the global market, but contributors and exporters,” he added.
The Chamber also announced progress on the completion of its permanent headquarters in Lagos. One of the floors has been dedicated to Col. Sani Bello (Rtd), a former Kano State Governor and businessman, in recognition of his contributions to commerce.
Balogun described the new building as “not just a physical structure, but a symbol of resilience, ambition, and legacy.”
The event featured the induction of new members, recognition of outstanding contributors, and award presentations to notable Nigerian and American personalities. Among the awardees was the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, who reaffirmed her ministry’s commitment to deepening collaboration with the Chamber.
Also speaking, inauguration chairman and CEO of the Africa Finance Corporation, Samaila Zubair, called on members of the Nigerian-American business community to strengthen cooperation and harness shared economic opportunities.
