Navy nabs banker impersonating Admiral

The Nigerian Navy yesterday paraded 37 year-old Deputy Manager of the Aso Savings and Loans Limited, Victoria Island branch, Simon Musa for impersonating a non-existing Naval Admiral to get a job in the bank.

Musa, who hails from Benue state, claimed to be a brother to a non existing Admiral Musa in the Nigerian Navy during an interview for employment with the bank.

The claim was to facilitate his employment which he finally got) as well as give the impression that he would be able to source for a deposit of N2 billion from the Nigerian Navy through the supposed Admiral Musa for the Mortgage Bank.

While parading the suspect, the Naval Director of Information (DINFO) Commodore Kabiru Aliyu said due to the intense pressure on him to meet up with the target given to him, the suspect often disguise as the said Admiral Musa on phone when calling his boss, the regional manager of the bank,  Mr. Ifeanyi Uzor to assure him of the 2billion naira deposit.

Aliyu said when it became apparent that he will not meet the target, the suspect who also pose as Admiral Musa, demanded for the sum of N1, 500.000 from Mr. Uzor to enable him effect the repairs on his acclaimed burnt house before he would facilitate the deposit of the 2billion naira from the Navy.

Aliyu further said the suspect was directed by Mr Ifeanyi to pick the money from his brother’s wife, Mrs. Liberty, who works in with the Abuja branch of the bank.

The DINFO said the scenario was presented to the Navy by representatives of the bank, from where the suspect was arrested on collecting the marked money at the bank’s premise.

The suspect was immediately handed over to the police further prosecution.

Responding to question from pressmen, the suspect said he had to lie to secure the job because one of the criteria to get marketing job in the bank was to know a senator or anybody who has huge sum to deposit with the institution.
