The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described as untrue the claim in some some quarters that leaders of the

coalition of opposition political parties have come to take over the party.

The interim National Publicity Secretary of ADC/Opposition coalition, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi said this on Thursday while speaking with Journalists after a meeting with 37 States’ Chairmen of the party and Abuja.

Abdullahi explained that the meeting, which took place in the Apo residence of the party’s interim National Chairman, Senator David Mark in Abuja, was to dispel the rumour that the chairmen have been pushed out of the party.

According to him, “We have invited all the state chairmen to this meeting to reassure them that we don’t have any intention to push them away”.

The Interim National Publicity Secretary, it will be recalled, had earlier debunked a viral list of state chairmen circulating across social media platforms, pointing out that the ADC has not made any new appointment of state Chairmen.

He concretely assured that ADC has no intention “to shove” the state chairmen out, adding, “We are here to work with them as partners to build a stronger political party.

His words, “And they are assured, and they are going to leave Abuja today (yesterday) more confident than they were yesterday (Wednesday) that they are partners in the building of this coalition.”

Abdullahi explained that the members of ADC were in agreement with the process so far taken to adopt the party as coalition platform, adding, “we are on a solid legal ground.

According to him, “And if anyone has evidence to show that we have violated our constitution, we are open to the challenged.

“No member of ADC has disagreed with the process so far”, he said.

Abdullahi stated that the former presidential candidate, Mr Dumebi Kachukwu, though a member of ADC, is not an officer of the party.

Chairman of ADC Chairmen’s Forum, Kingsley Ogga, said state chairmen were involved in the process leading to the adoption of ADC as coalition platform.

Ogga, who is also Chairman of Kogi State chapter, added “We have been on this process almost three years now.

“We have been carried along on what they are going to do, how they are going to do it.

“We sat down together, we deliberated together. That is how we did it before we came to this particular point we are at now, the coalition.”
