The National Judicial Council (NJC) is to begin its routine evaluation of judges in the country through the use of Information and Communication Technology.
The system, which will also encompass automated court system and electronic filing of cases from trial courts to the Supreme Court, will also make the process of evaluating judges faster.
The Chairman, Judicial Information Technology Policy Committee and Chief Judge of Borno State, Justice Kashim Zannah, said this in Abuja yesterday, during the presentation of the Nigeria Case Management System and inauguration of Supreme Court of Nigeria and National Judicial Council Data Centre.
The event, which was presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloma Mukhtar, took place at the Supreme Court Complex in Abuja.
Zannah said the system, whose pilot phase was ongoing in 16 sites, including NJC, “will make evaluation of performance of judges as easy and fast as tapping of a button.”
He said the system was said to have been copied from South Korea.
The idea of putting it in place in Nigeria was said to have been conceived in 2012 during the administration of the immediate past CJN, Justice Dahiru Musdapher.
Apart from the NJC, other pilot sites, according to Zannah, include the Court of Appeal (Abuja and Lagos), Federal High Court (Abuja and Lagos), the National Industrial Court (Abuja and Lagos), the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, the High Court of Bayelsa State and the High Court of Borno State.
